This little gem was worth waiting for since we lost Emma's last heifer to bloat. I knew if it was a heifer when Frazier's Emma delivered, her name would be 'Firefly'..a favorite of mine since childhood. She was born around 10am this morning, the day after Christmas. ~ WHITE STAR FARM PEARLINE ~
Miss Minnie has finally given us a heifer! We've owned Ansley Martin's Minnie for several years now, and had bull calves each year..they all went to freezer camp as they were nothing spectacular. This year she gave us Miss Pearline! And DNA has determined that WSF Boomerang is her sire. :-) This is a current photo of Pearline, she is putting her winter coat on. :-)
THIS HEIFER HAS A VERY SPECIAL LINEAGE INCORPORATING THE NATHAN HARRIS AND RALPH MARTIN LINES..TWO OF THE OLDEST AND VERY BEST BLOODLINES IN THIS BREED!
Pearline was born very tall at almost 24', but will be polled. I don't think she will be a mini in height at maturity, but she sure is lovely to look at and sweet as can be! :-) We had placed her for sale to a new home, but decided to retain her for the future pedigrees on our farm. :-)
Pearline has an almost perfectly formed heart on her forehead..and is painted all over. This is a trait given, I think, by the Barnyard Mini lineage. We'll see if I am correct when the DNA returns. Below are her particulars:

We welcomed a new highly painted heifer in July and will call her WSF Raindance. It was storming something terrible when she was born in the field. She is now nicknamed 'Doozy'..and that she is! This little heifer was right at 22' tall and will be Miss Stella's last calf for us. Stella has developed severe lameness in one of her rear legs at 9 yrs of age.

Bethel Homestead Winnie will arrive today, 08/25/19, at White Star Farm! Miss Winnie is a real beauty in my eyes..bottle fed for gentleness and very well bred. I'll post more as she matures and develops into her full potential as a milk cow one day soon!
We love our Hans offfspring! The black or darker coated bulls tend to throw the same in their male offspring, but not their females..at least not here. But, Hans has an almost perfect conformation to me..and he definitely threw that in his son, WSF Ranger. It is interesting to see how they develop over time, which is why I love to raise bulls. :-) Miss Winnie has the same nice. balanced conformation as her sire, but the light fawn coat color. I was certain 'she' was a 'he' when I arrived at the barn on the morning of the 12th of March, so I greeted 'him' and Annie, then went to feed the chickens and turn them out for the day.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this little heifer! ;-)

Upon returning, I went inside to check Annie out, saw the little 'dangley' under 'him' and put some hay in her rack. All of a sudden she bowed up to 'pee' and that is when I realized 'he' was a 'SHE'! I fell to my knees in gratitude to the LORD for this beautiful gift! If we get all bulls this year, it's ok..I have my precious Doc/Annie heifer!

WSF Thief deserves her name. :-) When we would bring cows in to milk, they would always have a quarter that was completley drained. And she was the only calf in the field of ladies. One time it would be a front quarter, the next time, maybe a rear one. Finally, I saw her in action, just sucking away! And the problem is that the cows LET her! She would clean out her mama, then head for the buffet..haha~
She is 6 months old now and fully weaned from them all. lol Being half purebred Tarentaise and half Mini Jersey, she cannot be registered in the MJHB&R. But we will breed her here for a few years with a mini Jersey bull to see if the size stays consistent and bring more Jersey into her offspring so that maybe one day, if things go well, some offspring may qualify for registration.
Here is a bit of info on the Tarentaise breed taken from Wikipeida:
Tarentaise cattle descend from the domestic cattle of the Tarentaise valley in France where they were isolated from other breeds for many thousands of years. The cattle adapted in such a way as to allow them to exist in high altitudes and be able to range in very steep and rough terrain to forage. They are used in France today to produce the cheese with a distinct flavor that comes from the high alpine villages of the Tarentaise, Beaufortain and Maurienne valley. These cattle have found special niches around the world in commercial cattle grazing and calving. In the USA these cattle are used primarily for producing crossbred cows distinctly suited for tough rangeland conditions and higher elevations. They are also bred for the beauty of their markings and their docile demeanor.
The Tarentaise breed also have the white muzzle ring, just as the Jerseys do. They are our pick for our table beef here at our farm, being very docile and easy to get along with our other cows. And they can be naturally polled in some cases. WSF Thief is a1/a2 and hetero polled. WSF Boomerang is confirmed to be her sire, by DNA. She is a dinky little cow that has more of a dairy conformation than beef. We'll give her time to mature and see what she does. :-)
